Chronic Disease Management

Despite rapidly increasing medical advancements, chronic disease management continues to be a major public health concern in the United States. Patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma often fail to take advantage of the treatments available to them, or behave in ways that contribute to the worsening of symptoms.  Researchers at CHIBE investigate the ways in which the predictable, irrational behavior of individuals with chronic disease can be leveraged to optimize health outcomes. CHIBE’s investigators test interventions to increase medication adherence, physical activity and healthy eating in order to reduce the burden of chronic disease on patients, their families and health systems.
