Philadelphia Citizen Names CHIBE Faculty as Citizens of the Year
The Philadelphia Citizen recognized two CHIBE-affiliated faculty members as “Citizens of the Year” in 2021. The outlet described Eugenia South, MD, MS, and Alison Buttenheim, PhD, MBA, and her Dear Pandemic colleagues as “some of the most dedicated Philadelphians who inspired us over the last year.”
Dr. South, a CHIBE-affiliated faculty member and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Presbyterian Medical Center of Philadelphia, and Florencia Greer Polite, MD, a Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn, were recognized for their efforts to reduce COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Black health care workers. In The Los Angeles Times, they described their approach at Penn Medicine: creating printed materials and PowerPoint presentations for high-traffic areas, as well as daily staff huddles to talk about vaccination experiences.
CHIBE Scientific Director Dr. Buttenheim was celebrated for her efforts with the Dear Pandemic initiative, an interdisciplinary team of female researchers and clinicians seeking to help answer questions related to COVID.
