Knowledge@Wharton: Why Wellness Programs Don’t Work So Well

“The challenge is that a lot of these programs are designed with the idea that we’re perfectly rational people. That a little bit of feedback — you could lose a few pounds or you should eat a little bit less — is naturally going to fall upon a rational human being who’s going to say, ‘You know, you’re right.’ The trouble is, I don’t necessarily want to get on the scale in the morning and get that feedback.
