Sweetened Beverage Taxes: A Policy That Works
In this video shown at the Bloomberg American Health Summit in Baltimore, November 12-13, 2019, Christina Roberto, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine, member of CHIBE, and Director of the PEACH Lab, discusses the dangers of sugary drinks and their effects on obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and tooth decay.
This video details some of the work Dr. Roberto conducted into Philadelphia’s sweetened beverage tax. After one year of its implementation, the research team found that purchases of the unhealthy drinks dropped by 38%. Read the JAMA study here.
