Team to Study Implementation of Behavioral Intervention for HIV Care in Philly Clinics
Congratulations to Florence Momplaisir, MD, MSHP, FACP; Robert Gross, MD, MSCE; and CHIBE Associate Director Rinad Beidas, PhD; who recently received an R01 as Multi-PIs from the National Institute on Nursing Research to study the implementation of the Managed Problem Solving (MAPS) behavioral intervention in Philadelphia clinics serving people living with HIV.
“I’m very excited to pursue this work in collaboration with my MPI partners Drs. Momplaisir and Gross, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and clinics serving people living with HIV in Philadelphia, given the national efforts to end the HIV epidemic,” Dr. Beidas said. “This represents an expansion of the Penn implementation science portfolio into HIV care, efforts to implement a Penn investigator- (Robert Gross) developed evidence-based intervention, MAPS, in the community, and the use of an innovative care model to deliver MAPS – community health workers.”
The team will test an adapted MAPS to address both adherence to medication and care retention. The behavioral intervention will be delivered by community health workers, who the PIs see as being adept at develop trusting relationships with their clients.
“This project represents many of our strengths at Penn, and we are looking forward to bringing these different areas together to move the needle and improve HIV care,” Dr. Beidas said.
