A story by CHIBE Affiliate Dr. Sophia Hua:
One in five children live with obesity. Youth-onset type 2 diabetes was basically nonexistent 30 years ago, but between 2001 and 2017, the prevalence of this disease increased by 95.3% among youth between the ages of 10 and 19. Prevention in the form of limiting sugary beverages is important because excess weight gain and type 2 diabetes are very difficult to reverse.
