Financial Incentives as a Mechanism to Reduce Obesity in the Workplace

Obese employees are costing US private employers an estimated $45 billion or more annually in health care costs and lost labor. Programs using financial incentives to encourage weight loss in the workplace have had mixed results. Asked to comment, Kevin Volpp stated, “there’s been an explosion of interest in this.”
