Biography
Dr. Catherine (Katie) Auriemma’s research focuses on improving the value of serious illness care by better aligning interventions with the goals and preferences of patients and their families. She works to develop and validate patient- and family-centered outcomes for studies of critically and seriously ill populations. Her work has been featured in JAMA Internal MedicineJAMA Network OpenIntensive Care Medicine, and The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Courtright is a core faculty member of the Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center and the Fostering Improvement in End-of-Life Decision Science (FIELDS) program at the University of Pennsylvania. She is an affiliated faculty member at CHIBE and at the Population Aging Research Center (PARC) and a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. She is also a member of the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Auriemma received her medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where she subsequently served as Chief Resident at Moffitt-Long Hospital. She completed her fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she also received her master’s degree in health policy research. Dr Auriemma is now an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). She cares for patients in the medical intensive care unit at HUP and in the Harron Lung Center where her practice focuses on survivors of critical illness.
