Health Policy/CHIBE Work-in Progress Research Seminar: Aaron Schwartz

November 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Aaron Schwartz, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine, will present to the health policy and CHIBE community on “Coverage Policy and Private Health Insurance: Evidence from Denials and Prior Authorization” on November 12, 12-1 pm ET, for the Health Policy/CHIBE Work-in Progress Research Seminar.

Read more about his talk here:
By targeting medical services that insurers view as susceptible to inappropriate use, coverage policy differs from other insurer tools that broadly incentivize lower health care utilization, such as patient cost-sharing or risk-based provider payment models. Coverage policy also represents a divergence in insurance design between government and private insurers. Dr. Schwartz will present two projects in progress that quantify the scope of coverage denials and prior authorization in Medicare Advantage plans, with explicit comparisons to traditional Medicare.
