CHIBE Leadership Additions and Promotions
The past year has been a great period of productivity and impact for CHIBE. Our Center has made some changes to the CHIBE leadership team to further strengthen our center and to bring emerging leaders on to the team.
Alison Buttenheim, PhD, MBA, will take on a new leadership role as CHIBE’s Scientific Director. Dr. Buttenheim is an Associate Professor and Silverstein Chair in Global Women’s Health at the School of Nursing, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine. She is also the Director of Engagement at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. She has had a number of leadership roles nationally and internationally, most recently on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s committee on equitable allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine. She has been an Associate Director of CHIBE for several years and served as the Interim Director in 2019.
Current CHIBE steering committee members Christina Roberto, PhD, the Director of the PEACH Lab, and Mitesh Patel, MD, MBA, MS, the Director of the Nudge Unit, will become Associate Directors. Dr. Roberto is the Mitchell and Margo Blutt Presidential Associate Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine and Dr. Patel is the Ralph Muller Presidential Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Care Management at the Perelman School and at Wharton.
In addition, we have added Rinad Beidas, PhD, the Director of the Penn Implementation Science Center at the Leonard Davis Institute, and Kit Delgado, MD, MS, the Director of the Behavioral Science & Analytics for Injury Reduction (BeSAFIR) lab, to the Steering Committee as Associate CHIBE Directors. Dr. Beidas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine, and Dr. Delgado is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
We are delighted that Harsha Thirumurthy, PhD, Jalpa Doshi, PhD, and Amol Navathe, MD, PhD, will continue in their current roles as Associate Directors.
Scott Halpern, MD, PhD, MBE, will transition from the Steering Committee to the Internal Advisory Board now that the Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center is firmly established as a parallel Roybal Center.
I believe these changes will further strengthen CHIBE and position us to have even greater impact in the months and years to come. Please join me in welcoming Drs. Buttenheim, Roberto, Patel, Beidas, and Delgado to their new roles.
