Janet Audrain-McGovern, PhD
Associate Professor, Perelman School of Medicine
Dr. Audrain-McGovern is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a member of the Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research has focused, in part, on identifying and understanding the bio-behavioral determinants of adolescent smoking acquisition to inform youth smoking prevention and smoking cessation interventions. Dr. Audrain-McGovern has served as the PI or Co-PI for numerous RO1 grants, both observational and interventional in nature. This work has highlighted the heterogeneity in adolescent smoking acquitision and the potential contribution of specific genetic factors to this heterogeneity. This work led to the identification of protective and risk enhancing gene by environment interactions on adolescent smoking acquisition. Dr. Audrain-McGovern is currently investigating the protective role of physical activity in adolescent smoking uptake, the use of behavioral economic principles and approaches to explain smoking acquisition and cessation, and the co-morbidity between smoking and depression. Dr. Audrain-McGovern is the Co-Director of the Career Development Core at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Nicotine Addiction at UPENN and the Co-Director of the Career Development Core for the Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science.
